Soccer tournament set to bring in an estimated economic impact of $5.3 million over the weekend

OVERLAND PARK/OLATHE, Kan., May 26, 2022 – Heartland Soccer Association, the largest youth soccer league and tournament host in the U.S., will welcome more than 370 teams this weekend to the sold-out Kansas City Invitational. This long-standing Memorial Day weekend tournament has grown to be one of the largest in the region. Tournament games will be played at the world-class SCHEELS Overland Park Soccer Complex and the Garmin Olathe Soccer Complex.

With teams traveling in from all over the Kansas City metropolitan area and various states, the economic impact is estimated to be $5.3 million over tournament weekend.

“The Kansas City Invitational continues its reputation as one of the biggest and best Memorial Day weekend tournaments in the region,” explained Shane Hackett, Heartland Soccer Association executive director. “This tournament is always a great way to wrap up the spring season. We are so excited to welcome in teams from all over the Midwest, giving them the opportunity to play at our world class all turf soccer complexes.”

Considering the importance of local media to our sport, we encourage and invite the media to attend and cover the event. The first set of games will start at 5:30PM on Friday. Saturday and Sunday games will begin at approximately 8:00AM with the award ceremonies starting after noon on Sunday.

Up next for Heartland is the Kansas City 3v3 Challenge on June 18, 2022 at Scheels Overland Park Soccer Complex. Interested teams can register up until June 6 at www.heartlandsoccer.net.
